Will you just come to my room already?

[ York doesn't reply, just shows up in North's room a couple of minutes later. He never needs the lock code or permission to come in, so this time he slips in the room on his own just like usual.

But where normally he'd bound in enthusiastically, this time he hangs just inside the doorway with one of his hands in his pockets. He seems to be affecting an air of nonchalance, which of course makes him look ill-at-ease. ]

Hey. Sorry.

[North considers the man, having finally sat up in his bed. He's got the WORST hangover, and York isn't helping with all of this vagueness.]

You just going to hover that and make me feel awkward?

[howkickassiam]

I suppose I already did that.

[ He approaches, however, walking up to the side of North's bed. Both hands are now in his pockets. ]

Look. You can ignore the shit I said on text.

[Ugh, this is frustrating.]

York, have you been implying you want to 'blow off steam' with me because it's easy, or because you're, you know, interested in it?

[howkickassiam]

[ York looks, briefly, very startled. His hands drop from his pockets. ]

North, I just. I feel like you completely misunderstood me.

[ He seems about to put a hand on North's shoulder but hesitates. He's begun to flush red, too. ]

I wouldn't have said anything if I, uh...if I didn't care for you the way I do.

[ The next bit seems to burst out of him, rushed and nervous. ]

And I know I fucked everything up by telling you so, okay? I'm sorry. Like I said. You can forget I brought it up.

[duel_wielding]

[Well, at least North's not the one who is terminally nervous now.]

York? If you hadn't seemed so chronically interested in having Carolina's babies, you'd have been in my bed by now.

[Yes, he's trying to make this slightly lighter. But it's really failing. Hangovers do that.]

[ York's eyes widen slightly, and he moves closer, as close as it's possible to move—his knees touch the edge of the mattress. ]

Is that a...is that a barrier for you? Like...it makes you not interested, or...?

[ York is perfectly capable of being in love with both of his best friends, thank you. ]

Well, knowing that if she basically said 'York come over here' you'd drop me without blinking. Other than that, it doesn't affect my interest.

[ York looks at him earnestly. ]

No, I wouldn't do that. If we were, were really together...together together...I wouldn't drop you like a bad habit. I'd talk to both of you about what we wanted to do.

[Well that's interesting.]

And just what would you want to do, with me?

[howkickassiam]

[ York gives North a little nudge on the shoulder, to signal him to scooch a bit. York will sit down next to him, if he gets a space to do so. ]

I'm poly, North, dunno if you are or not, but I'm capable of communicating and being fair with more than one partner.

And if you're not, well, that's what we'd discuss. Like I just said, I wouldn't just drop you.

[North stared at him in shock. You heard about people who openly identified this way, but you never actually met people who claimed it openly and proudly.]

I think I need a moment to process this.

[howkickassiam]

[ York continues to stand there, having been unable to squeeze in beside North as he'd hoped to do. ]

Take what time you need, North.

[ Now he decides to take a different tack. He puts his hands on North's shoulders, leaning in a little to meet his gaze. ]

I'm telling the truth.

[duel_wielding]

[North did move over now, making space for York. Or he started to, only to have hands on his shoulders.]

I know you are. You don't lie to me. I just... You've been unattainable forever."

[ York lets go so he can now squeeze into the space North started to make. He knows they'll fit together on the bed all right once they're settled. ]

We've both been making assumptions about this. Sounds like...for a long time.

[ He takes hold of North's hand, turns his head so he can speak to North face-to-face. ]

I do like you that way. Have for a long time.

You never said anything, York. God this is stupid.

[ York chuckles ruefully. ]

If I said something to every person I got a crush on...

Say something to me now, York.

[howkickassiam]

[ York rubs his thumb over the back of North's hand, looking him straight in the face. ]

I really like you, North. And I want to kiss you.

[duel_wielding]

I'd say you should but... I probably taste like ass right now, from the drinking.

[howkickassiam]

I honestly don't really care about that, North.

[ But he's not going to lay one on him until he's sure North's up for it. ]

And if I want to taste and smell nice for a first kiss?

[ York rubs his thumb along North's hand again. ]

In that case I guess you'd better hurry and go brush your teeth.

[Wow his heart is racing and he had never expected that. North is soon on his feet, and sure he staggers from how bad his head hurts, but that won't stop him from rushing off to do just that. He'll be back. keep your pants on.]
